APPA: BTU Website Best in the Nation

The recently redesigned Bryan Texas Utilities website has been named the winner of the Award of Excellence in Public Power Communications- first place nationally – by the American Public Power Association (APPA)

Receiving a national award from APPA is a high honor that can be achieved by public power systems of all sizes and by individuals in various career stages.

“It is an honor to be recognized by APPA for our website,” said Gary Miller, General Manager of BTU. “Our website was chosen as the best among mid-sized utilities across the nation. We strive for our company to be as customer friendly, efficient, and reliable as possible and the intent is for our website to serve as a full extension of our BTU customer service experience.”

The website communications category was judged by an outside panel of communications experts who looked at criteria such as visually engaging, intuitive, customer-friendly, responsive for mobile devices and accessible to people with disabilities.

“We are proud of the website and the hard work that make this design not only look great, but functional and accessible by all customers,” said David Werley, BTU Group Manager, Business and Customer Operations. “The City Communications and Marketing department, BTU Business Operations and BTU Information Technology staff work diligently to provide the public with information relevant to their needs.”

APPA was created in 1940 as a nonprofit, non-partisan organization to advance the public policy interests of its members and their consumers, and provide member services to ensure adequate, reliable electricity at a reasonable price with the proper protection of the environment. More than 2,000 municipally owned utilities are members of APPA.

BTU is the municipally owned electric utility serving over 50,000 customers in Bryan, Texas and surrounding areas. BTU has been recognized for its reliability and its customer service initiatives. BTU has been honored with the “Reliable Public Power Provider – RP3 – Diamond Award” from the American Public Power Association and the “System Achievement Award” from the Texas Public Power Association. The BTU website previously won the Silver Circle Savvy Award from the City-County Communications and Marketing Association.
